T.S.Eliot Foreshadows Foucault

Portrait of T.S. Eliot by Windham Lewis

Two Choruses from The Rock

The endless cycle of idea and action,
Endless invention, endless experiment,
Brings knowledge of motion, but not of stillness;
Knowledge of speech, but not of silence;
Knowledge of words, and ignorance of the Word. p. 81

All our knowledge brings us nearer to our ignorance,
All our ignorance brings us nearer to death,
But nearness to death no nearer to GOD,
Where is the Life we have lost in living?
Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge?
Where is the knowledge we have lost in information?

Michel Foucault

The Method of Genealogy of Knowledge
Applied and Extended
From Nietzsche

"Information is not knowledge.
Knowledge is not knowing.

Knowledge is made for cutting."

I am struck by the resonance of their images for me.

We are drowning  in information. How long can we stand to go on listening to a political DISCOURSE that spits info out at us like a fire hydrant.That's what "mansplaining" is!

Without any knowledge and absolutely without any KNOWING.
